Reverse Osmosis is a process where water molecules are forced through a 0.0001 micron semi permeable membrane by water pressure. A line of TFC – (Thin Film Composite) sheets are skillfully sandwiched together and rolled up around a hollow central tube in a spiral fashion. The sizes of these tubes depend on the quantity of water to be processed.
The reverse osmosis process of purification is mainly meant to reduce the ‘salt content’ from the water.
Ultrafiltration (UF) uses standard home water pressure to push water through a semipermeable membrane and remove any contaminants. Ultrafiltration retains minerals in the water, while filtering out bacteria, viruses, and parasites.

The Ceramic Water Filter is designed to filter water down, removing sediment, dirt, rust, visible particles, as well as bacteria from the water.
The Ceramic filter design and materials mean that it can be scrubbed and washed, as it blocks up with sediment and other contaminants. However, keep in mind that while it can be washed and cleaned, it is still recommended that the Ceramic Filter is replaced after 12 months (One Year).
Carbon is an extremely porous material that attracts and holds a wide range of harmful contaminants. Activated carbon is carbon which has a slight electro-positive charge added to it, making it even more attractive to chemicals and impurities. As the water passes over the positively charged carbon surface, the negative ions of the contaminants are drawn to the surface of the carbon granules.

A general rule of thumb, Soft water has low TDS, hard water has high TDS. In East Africa, municipal water is classified as soft, borehole or underground water is classified as hard.

Water treatment is like any other treatment process. The key is to figure out the problem with the water, in order to treat it. Depending on the water input TDS one has to select the right technology to purify the water.
In theory, Reverse Osmosis is the best as it has the smallest filtration pores. However, it is best suited for high TDS water to remove all dissolved solids. If your water has low TDS, Ultrafiltration would work best.

All our filters have an estimated duration of use. Some of our systems have filter replacement sensors that let you know when to replace them. For those that don’t, a good rule of thumb to know is reduced water pressure and change of taste. We do however, recommend to change at the maximum estimated filter life.
